Upon a holiday to spain, i attempted to use the airplane toilet. i am not scared of the toilet at all, it doesn't phase me, i simply cannot pee on a plane!! nothing happens. i have no understanding why! i cant explain it! i know i have shy bladder syndrome, because at work i cannot pee if someone is in the cubicle next to me, it has to be silent and i have to take my phone in with me to distract me. and if people are waiting ill just pretend and then go back later. not ideal, but i manage. tickling my lower back helps me to pee. but nothing helps on a plane. i know its completely lockable and no gaps under the doors, i know no one can hear me and im not worried, like i am at work. but i still cant go!!! i think its to do with the slight movement/bounce you feel on a plane! i just dont know what to do anymore as i cant fly for much longer than 3 hours but partner wants to travel further, but i just cant!! at my most bursting point, i still cant go!!! everything just clams up! Ive tried a sheewee and its exactly the same, nothing comes out!!!
any advice! PS never seen a GP about my shy bladder, i just live with it.
Hi Liz
Go to your GP and explain that you get urinary retention on a plane, which is a danger to health. Ask to be prescribed disposable catheters. You can read up about them on the coloplast.co.uk website. You may have to be assertive with the GP. If s/he is uncooperative, ask to be regerred to a urologist; they are more relaxed about catheters. For dpeed you may have to go for a private consultation. Well worth it to get the freedom to fly.
Good luck
