Hello,
First, thanks to all who have contributed to this topic and to the moderators and supporters on this site as well.
I will first explain why I am posting - I am interested in obtaining a referral/recommendation for a urologist who is sympathetic to our condition, in or around London or the Southeast. The original poster offered to provide this information but I am conscious that was a few years ago. This would be purely for an ISC prescription and guidance, and whatever prerequisites they might have for this of course.
A bit about myself, I'm 57, and I have had a general paruresis since the age of 6 when I was assaulted and beaten in the men's toilet by three other children. I have told two people about this my entire life, my wife only recently, and only after discovering this site and that this is an actual condition that others have as well.
I naturally did not think anyone else had this general inability to pee in front of others or when others are waiting except for me, due
to the way it started with me as it was quite a unique and traumatic event. I have found some comfort in reading others' stories and
knowing that I am not the only one who has this. And I am especially sympathetic to those who can find no cause or who have it quite severely. I think we probably are all quite sensitive and anxious types in general.
A girlfriend at University suggested when in public I should just go in a stall every time to be out of view of others. This has generally
worked for me my entire life, to this day I cannot pee in front of others, but 95% of the time I can in a stall.
So the reason I'm interested in ISC now is that I too have serious problems on long flights and trains. For me, the problem with flights are a combination of paruresis, turbulence, claustrophobia, and anxiety. Its hit and miss too over the years, however I just did a 9 hour flight without being able to urinate once. This cannot behealthy for the bladder/kidneys, and psychologically devastating.
Anyway, thank you for reading, and please do reply with details of any urologist you can recommend.
Thanks.
Dan
