Reply: Delay in prescribing a catheter

Several guys have been successful in having a telephone private appointment with a GP. Cost about £200, but there was no problem being prescribed catheters. So cannot guarantee it will work, but if you have the money, it is worth a try.

As for the benefit of a workshop in spite of being quite mild, you would be the first to not benefit among hundreds of guys. Search "feedback" on this forum and the archived forums.

I’ve been suffering since school with varying levels of severity and sporadically been back to this site when it’s got worse. At one point cubicles could be a challenge but following some online CBT through the NHS this improved. For the last couple of years I’ve been in a position where, despite feeling embarrassed having to wait for a cubicle every time, I can go, so social situations aren’t 100% ideal but manageable.

The issue for some reason seems to be at work. It’s not all the time but often enough that I’ve ended up in some very uncomfortable situations and I worry that it’s going to get to a point where I have to tell someone and risk losing my medical certificate due to this. Because of this I have started to go down the self catheterisation route. My GP was unable to prescribe me catheters so referred me to urology. On my first appointment feeling very embarrassed, I managed to explain the problem and that I would like a catheter but it would only be for emergencies and not something to rely on. He said to rule out anything physical he would send me for some tests first. I’ve had the first of these which was not very pleasant and feel is more likely to have had a negative effect on my paruresis. I would rather not have to wait for the next procedure and then again for a follow up appointment and just get straight to being issued a catheter. Has anyone experienced similar and got any suggestions for helping to expedite the urologists prescribing me with ISC considering I know it’s a psychological problem?

Also I’m thinking about attending my a workshop but considering currently my case is quite mild is it still likely to help?
