Hi Allan

Have a look at a manufacturer's website: this one is Coloplast's:

www.coloplast.co.uk/Bladder-and-Bowel/fi...duct/male-catheters/

They offer a free sample. However it is usual to do it via a GP. Some GP's are helpful; others say you will eventually go when your bladder gets full. In these cases you would have to forcibly point out that that is not true, as you can personally vouch for.

Keep in touch

Andrew

I don’t know if you’re still seeing the same g.p or not or if you are & have spoken to his about your a.p again since or tried seeing an alternative doctor to see if they are more mature and more respectable than the one you mention but one thing I thought you could do is print off this article that Ian had in the newspaper not so long ago and post it to your g.p with a short letter.
He should take more notice of you then and hopefully treat your problem seriously.

Sorry to hear about your experience with the young g.p.
Take it from experience that professionals can be unprofessional and very immature!
He’s going to find in the years ahead of his career that patients are going to say far more “amusing” things than paruresis and will come across many people with this problem.
I’ve felt like punching professionals for laughing at me before due to their insensitivity.
I have given my current g.p information on paruresis and sent him emails with newspaper articles etc.
He has shared everything with the rest of the doctors at the surgery per my request to make this condition more recognised.

Hi David
About your UTis. This is unusual. Because caths are sterile, an infection can't come form them. But it could be your hands. Have you considered an alcohol hand disinfectant to use immediately prior to handling the cath?

As for the GP. That reaction is totally unprofessional. We can send you our glossy brochure to give you credibility. Also you can state that one of our trustees and one of the Honorary Advisors are clinical psychologists; also we have been recognised by the British Medical Association. I feel you could write to the Head of Practice at the Gp surgery with a complaint that you were treated unprofessionally, citing the above. Get in touch if you want help with that.
Cheers
Andrew
