We're both coming to terms with our experience and our lucky escape. We had been in the central square in Kathmandu amidst all the temples when the earthquake struck. One of the temples only yards away collapsed covering us in dust and debris but incredibly we both walked away with hardly a scratch. The next few hours were difficult as we tried to find somewhere safe. We basically stood in the middle of the square as far from buildings as we could for hours, getting down on the ground during the aftershocks. For once, and only once, in my life I was thankful for paruresis - people around me were getting distressed because there were no toilets and everyone was too frightened to go off in search of one. My bladder is well-used to holding on for hours so I knew I could wait as long as it took! Eventually a kind Nepalese soldier led us off to a discrete(ish) shed where I encountered one of the worst squat toilets I had ever seen (or smelled!). I managed to pee with very little trouble which amazed me. I wonder if the fear of the situation I was in was just so enormous that the fear of not being able to pee faded into insignificance at that time. I have no idea.
My idea for a bog blog didn't quite work out as planned....
