Hi Dave
I saw that advert on the same day! In a motorway services toilet.
It is specifically targeted at the difficulties faced by men with slightly enlarged prostates i.e. the purely physical problems. However it does refer to both starting a flow, and dealing with an uncontrolled need to pee. So it would be interesting to try it.
For anyone reading this, the website has a questionnaire you answer it order to get a score; you can then print it off and show it to a pharmacist, for him/her to assess whether the drug would be worth trying. I shall probably try it myself. The questions all relate to physical issues and not to paruresis; so there is no need to admit to paruresis. Having said that, it is really only open to men over 45.
So if you are over 45, and have peeing symptoms of mild enlarged prostate e.g. long hesitancy, inadequate emptying, urgent need to go, frequency of peeing, especially at night, it is very worth while doiong. It MAY even help with the paruresis by giving more control over the sphincter. I say MAY, cos no-one knows till its tried.
cheers
Andrew

I was prescribed flomax several years ago by a urolgist whilst in my mid twenties. Looking back, I think it was the only thing they had that they could give me - neither he or I had heard of paruresis then. I was very hopeful but the drug didn't do much of anything for me. I was perhaps aware of a slightly different sensation whilst beginning to pee but was never sure whether or not this was me over-analysing or being overly hopeful that some change in my condition was occuring. I saw the advert the other night and wondered whether it had provoked any activity on the discussion board. I am sure it would be something worth trying for those with the symptoms/in the age-bracket Andrew described but I just wanted to sound a note of caution that as it is a drug to treat specific physical conditions it will therefore not cure those whose problems in peeing are down to paruresis. Thank goodness for the ukpt!
