Also it saves men having to queue for the toilets, saves them having to deal with the smell / filth of portaloos, and saves them making more of a mess inside for women to have deal with.
Also for young men/boys who become accustomed to using these urinals, peeing is no big issue.
In my experience, it is perfectly acceptable for males to use the cubicles/portaloos should they wish, but at the same time, I have found there are either many urinals to choose from (so you can choose a spot away from people), and I have also found the fact that you are in a field with 3000 (small festival) to 100000s of people (somewhere like Glasto), you feel pretty anonymous compared to say the office or your local.
My advice is to enjoy the festivals and when you first get there, walk around and check out all the toilets. Some will be more private than others and some will be busy at certain times of the day and quiet at others.329
