As everyone says, it was a pleasure and even a good laugh to spend time with fellow improvers. The camaraderie was quite marvellous. None of us spent any time wallowing in our former miseries. We are all determined that we will destroy the awful “boo monster” that used to sit on our shoulders.
I have been blighted by this condition for all of my long life and I am delighted to report that, thanks to the lead of Andrew and the support of my fellow APs, I now know that, even at my advanced age, I am going to recover from it.
I have so for managed to pee at a urinal when standing right next to a stranger, even without any partition. I never thought I would ever be able to do that! I have even managed to pee at a trough with an attendant cleaning the floor behind me. Although I am not sure yet that I would be able to perform with others standing at the same trough and I still have difficulty with friends and relations, I am absolutely determined that I will crack this.
As we learn at the workshops, each person has a different way of achieving success. In my case it is the realisation that I am not in competition with others. I have a right to stand there for as long as I choose without taking any notice of what the person or persons next to me are doing. As Andrew tells us, nobody else is in the least interested in what I do; they just get on with their own lives.
For anyone who has not yet been on a workshop, I urge you to attend the next beginners’ session and to follow it up with an improvers’ workshop as quickly as possible. You will be amazed with the results. 271
