In late 2015 we invited women with shy bladder to give us their views on what would help them to manage their paruresis. Respondees indicated that they would welcome the opportunity to meet with other women who have shy bladder, and to find out more about how the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) based workshops that UKPT offer can work for women. We have decided to hold an informal women’s information session in London on 4th June 2016 for women with paruresis. This will give you an opportunity to meet with other women in similar situations - some who have attended workshops, some who haven’t – and to help the organisation to ensure that future workshops and communications will contribute towards meeting the needs of women.
I shall be facilitating the session and Andrew Smith, Chair of UKPT, will come along for part of the session to talk about the workshops – how they started and the difference they make for people who have attended.
I have attended a workshop myself having had shy bladder difficulties for around 20 years. I’m happy to share my experiences and there will be an opportunity for other women to share theirs if they wish. I know how daunting it can be to open up about something which may have caused you a lot of difficulties, but telling other people in a safe environment can be a really useful first step towards tackling the problem.
The session will start at noon to give people a chance to travel to London and we aim to finish around 4.30 pm. The venue will be Friends House which is on Euston Road opposite Euston Station. If you would be interested in coming along, please drop me an email to ann@ukpt.org.uk to reserve a place.
If travel costs may be a problem for you please let us know and we may be able to subsidise your travel.
Kind regards
Ann Allcoat
