I am sure a sizeable chunk of readers including myself have turned down promotion at work because promotion involved going on courses and mixing socially with work colleagues and managers .Looking back it is very regretful but at the time you don't see it that way.

Yes this has happened time over, having said i have improved my condition which has opened more opportunities. I am stuck whether to stay at a job in assembly work, or move into cnc. but am scared for a few factors one being paruresis and other factors are if other employees will like me or ill learn the job etc.

Hi Dylan,I am a paruresis sufferer and have worked in construction for many years. If you work on large projects they always have a toilet block with a few cubicles so you would probably be ok with that. However if you are travelling from job to job as I have also done a lot of in the past it can be problems tic.As you don't know what the toilet situation will be from one job to another. On a few occasions I had to pretend to need a poo and go off and find somewhere I could comfortably go.So your best option would be to work on a large static project with adequate facilities.

Hello, thanks for your reply ive been stuck in a factory for the past 4.5 years . I've been to worried to do something where im not sure if i can use the toilets. My paruresis 4.5 years ago was a lot worse but even when i was doing a course to get into another industry i freaked out incase i wouldn't be able pee and stopped attending. I really want to do something I'd enjoy but keep talking myself out of it. Im not sure if it's other confidence or anxiety issue that's stopping me but im glad from your response.
