I use a self cath for my paruresis. Sometimes I need to use it once a day 5 times a week when I'm at work depending upon the toilet / anxiety levels. The last lot of caths I got were reusable ones - and I'm after getting some more online. I prefer reusable over disposable, it's a cost thing.
The other day I tried sending for some free samples from coloplast, but just got a women ringing me up asking me a lot of questions about whether I'd been prescribed them.
Like a total muppet I answered telling her the truth, because I wanted her off the phone coz I was at work and felt a little paranoid. Well, she basically told me I wasn't getting any so that was that. Does anyone know where I can get hold of some reusable self caths from without getting the second degree.. 'have you been prescribed them by your doctor' etc.
Normally you can go to your GP and explain paruresis i.e. that the lock-up is out of your control; and that at times you need to self-cath to avoid urinary retention. Admittedly it is pot luck as to what reaction you will get; anything from understanding and agreement, to total unwillingness. However if they will prescribe, it will be on prescription, which keeps the cost down, and evn zero.
Have you tried this.
Also can I suggest that you come on one of our workshops. We are experienced at helping severe caes tnat use caths.
Thanks Andrew I will try the doctor. Don't know what the outcome will be, but at least I still have my re usable ones to fall back on if all doesn;t go well.
