I went to a wedding once at a country house, miles from anywhere with only a small restroom, with only one cubical, so in the end I had to wait 10 hours until I got back to the hotel room, as if you went out of the country house it was pitch black. I used to be ok at service stations, but now ive even got problems here. And as for going out I try as with work to drink early on then cutting back, thus taking away the need to go. I think this problem may have started when I went to see the tour once, where because of a double booking at the hotel I had to share a room with the coach driver and somebody else. The only problem was that it was a small room with no toilet door. And I think my second worst time was on the way back from Spain where at the airport the flight was delayed, and it was packed. I managed in the end, but even when you found a working unblocked cubical there always seemed to be somebody waiting for you to finish and get out.
Its great to find a site like this and to be able to share this problem. Thanks Marc

Welcome to the board hon, and thanks for posting your story.
It IS hard when you feel like you're the only one with an issue, but once you realise that you're not the only one, and that this is a safe and friendly place to post, well then you feel less alone and (in my personal experience) the issues *feel* less of an issue as you know that you can share and others will know what you've gone through.
Since i came across this site my life has changed a lot.
I recognise the "travel" and "only one cubical" issues. Once i shared a room in a hotel in France with a friend. The rooms where very old and originally did not have a bathroom. What they did was place a toilet and put a panel aside, that was the bathroom...need is say more. Also flight delays where a horror, especially when there was already a feeling that i needed to go and we did not even depart yet.
You probably already read about the workshops on this site. I can assure you, they are very helpfull !!
All the best

Hi Marc
Good to hear from you. I'm glad you like this site and also being able to share how you feel. What you have written will be so familiar to so many others, as you no doubt realise by reading the other postings.
That wedding rings bells; in the past I would have gone out in the dark, and probably trampled through a flowerbed by mistake lol.
So.. use this board, write as much as you like, ask questions, whatever, and then start thinking about a workshop :-)
cheers
Andrew

Hi Marc
Like you I have been so glad to find this site, after being alone with the problem for so long. We've all had this type of experience in different ways, at least we can support each other on here.
I'm hoping to attend a workshop in the Autumn after reading other people's feedback on the board.
I used to have a recurring dream about toilets without doors. I haven't had the dream for ages but still have the paruresis!
Thanks for your messages, I remember once when I went to the flicks that I needed the loo, at which were two kids. But while in the cubical one of them decided to climb the side of it, and then he was there a face looking down apon me. I think the trick is to relax, not to get tied up in knots or feel under a time presure because there are other people about or waiting. Also I seem to remember a couple of times in my childhood where I forgot to lock the door and I had a shock as they burst into the room, funny thing is I can still see the shock on her face. Thanks Marc
